Lead Chimney capping installed

At our current refurbishment job in Maidenhead, there are 6 chimney stacks where the previous flaunching had eroded away. Instead of applying a mortar bedding on top of the chimney again, we decided to weld a code 6 graded Lead capping.

By using a Code 6 Lead it would be thick enough to be shaped & welded to the chimney stack, as well as providing a greater protection for many years to come.

Improving sustainability as a company

We welcomed Brewers Decorator Centre to our head office for a seminar on sustainability. This focused on, as a company, how we can recycle all metal & plastic paint cans. This is a direct focus on helping to improve recycling and environmental performance.

Together with Brewers, we now have a procedure in place which allows us to;

  1. Order recycling sacks from branch.
  2. The branch will dispatch a quantity with the van on it’s next delivery.
  3. When the sacks are full, we will request a branch collection.
  4. Once delivered back to branch we will be issued with a Waste Transfer notice.

“As a fact, the metal recycling facilities used by Specialist Waste Recycling (SWR) typically achieve a 99% recycling rate & plastic typically achieves an 85% recycling rate.”

Exploring the benefits of a healthier lifestyle

On Monday afternoon we invited Mark Bennett from Entire Wellbeing to our office to discuss the vast benefits of implementing a healthier lifestyle. A.C. Beck takes pride in insuring the well being of it’s employee’s and is looking to offer further guidance where necessary. After an introduction into Mark’s experience and previous case studies, we then began the presentation.

Mark started to discuss the main factors that make up the wheel of health. These included diet, nutrition, sleep, stress and environmental factors. We were introduced to new techniques on overcoming issues which individuals may have within any of the main factors. It was an eye opening experience on how nutrition plays a bigger part on your day to day life than most people would expect & by making a simple change can see your health reap the rewards.

Other topics of discussion included nutritious foods, environmental issues, genes & the shocking stats that are an effect of human caused factors.

Putting WindowCare into practice

Since the scaffold has been erected at our latest refurbishment project (see previous post), we have been able to gain access to all features at the rear of the building. There are a number of rotten wood cills, windows & fascia’s which have required extensive Repair care works. We have to ensure we preserve the wood, apply and remould the repair care and prepare for decorating.

In the image below you can see the detailed work that has gone into restoring this fascia panel with the help of Windowcare Repair Care.
